A Year In Review-2019

A Year To Remember

The Best Version Project Launched

The first 6 months of 2019 we had a team on the ground developing a new sponsorship program, The Best Version Project. This program brings life-saving medical care and daily nutrition to children in need. To date we have 62 children sponsored, with 34 still available. If you’re interested in investing in a child’s life in 2020 you can visit TheBestVersionProject.org to learn more.

Love Store Grand Opening

A new chapter in the OAL story started October 5th when we opened our first retail space in downtown Cartersville. This space is intended to not only sell magic shirts that turn into food in Liberia but to bring the stories and mission closer to the public. In 3 short months of being open, the store has provided over 200,000 meals as well as providing funding for our medical and adoption assistance programs.

2 New Well Installations

Thanks to your support, we were able to install two new wells serving many children and adults. Adding safe drinking water to a person’s life creates a ripple effect that impacts them in a positive way that we can barely begin to comprehend.  Reliable sources of clean water and ease of access makes for happy and healthy hydration.  On their behalf we say thank you, thank you, thank you.

New Distribution Center Opened In Monrovia + Landcruiser For Deliveries/Medical

As our food and medical programs expand it became clear there was a necessity for a central distribution center.  This space greatly improves the efficiency of our field work.  30 tons of food, medical and sanitary supplies are kept on hand.   The supplies are organized and ready for our field team to make their monthly distributions as well as address special needs that often arise.  Our “Bush Lady” (Landcruiser) plays a critical role as she rolls deep, day after day, to meet the needs of our children near or far.

Million Meals Club Grows

2019 was a big year for the Million Meals Club.  The MMC provided over 250,000 meals this year.  That is a lot of little hands scooping food up into their mouths.  Our members (we love you all so much!)  provide food daily for our kiddos and as a thank you receive an exclusive LOVE. shirt in the mail the first week of each month.  Best Club on Earth!!

Education for Hundreds

It has been a great year for learning to read.  In Balama, our school is serving over 300 children from surrounding villages. We now have on staff 10 certified teachers (no small feat).  Liberia Reads is in full motion for our K-3 kiddos.  They are developing serious reading skills.  Our school leadership is working diligently to ensure constant school improvement. 10 of our young adults are studying nursing and agriculture at Cuttington University.  It is very exciting to see them learn and grow knowing they will impact the lives of many in the future.

His Safe Haven Building Project

Our dear friends at His Safe Haven have beautiful hearts and carry out a beautiful mission.  As they serve abandoned, severely disabled children it has been a great honor to be able to assist them in their efforts.  Over the last year we have come alongside to provide feeding as well as the construction of housing and fencing.  They love deeply and as God leads we look forward to future projects with HSH.

ELWA Hospital- Plumpy Nut

As our children often times experience special medical needs we transport them (our friend Bush Lady) to ELWA Hospital located in the city of Monrovia. Here, there are primarily international doctors with local staff serving hundreds of patients on a daily basis. It is with great excitement that we have recently been supplying Plumpy’nut for the pediatric ward as well as their weekly malnutrition clinic.  The Plumpy’ nut is a hyper nourishing life saving product for these children who are so, so sick and often times on the brink of death. Our first shipment of 5,000 packets recently arrived and is filling little bellies right this minute.  Our plan is to keep it coming with regularly scheduled shipments.

Chicken House Projects

Eggs, eggs, and more eggs.  Our beautiful birds have produced thousands of eggs for children who will benefit from an extra source of protein added to their daily diet. This year we have added two additional chicken houses that house over 400 birds each. By March 2020 our little friends will be delivering over 20,000 eggs each month.  Our staff and many of our children are becoming quite the chicken farmers to impact their present as well as their future.

A Note From The Founder

Dear Family,
The definition of grateful is a feeling of appreciation.  This definition just does not do justice to the feeling within my heart.  As I reflect back on 2019 I realize there are no words to express my gratefulness for you.  I want to thank you for the impact you have had in the lives of so, so many children.  Children we love dearly and your active participation in bringing them health and hope and beautiful expressions of love throughout the year is pure beauty.  Thank you.
May we charge, hand in hand, into 2020 ready to love bigger than ever.  Together, ready to live Matthew 25:40 on such a scale that the glory of God is revealed in such beautifully radical ways that our hearts are filled with the joy, joy, joy of the Lord.  God’s love will be felt as bellies will be filled, health will be restored to many malnourished little bodies, life saving medicines will be delivered,  minds will be molded, girls will be empowered, adoptions will be funded and as the Holy Spirit reveals needs together we will extend our hands and our hearts.
So family…I love you and as we close 2019  I love that we journey into 2020 together.
Blessings to you all,

Daryl

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’  Matthew 25:40
